The SAP community mindshare is dominated by the S/4HANA conversation. Introduced in 2015, migration to S/4 has been encouraged by SAP, Systems Integrators and Management Consultants for many years, yet much of the existing SAP installed base – mostly running on S/4’s predecessor ECC – have not begun substantial migration efforts.
Migration to S/4 is complex, especially for large enterprises with multiple SAP landscapes. Business continuity requirements for existing systems and
the ordinary constraints of limited IT capacity create competition for resources and project timelines. Complicating migrations are decisions regarding
methodology – technical migration versus transformation – and runtime environment – on-premise, hyperscaler or RISE.
